Effects of diflucan and prograf

I was just instructed by my transplant team to stop diflucan since I'm 6 weeks post kidney transplant, However they increased my prograf from 3 to 4 pills twice a day because they are telling me diflucan interferes with Prograf... does anyone know why ? Just concerned that increasing prograf will increase my creatinine again.. I have been stable at 1.3 for the last three weeks .

  • Diflucan is an anti-fungal and that entire class of drugs actually enhances your blood levels of the prograf. And now, since they have stopped the drug (which was pushing up your prograf levels), they've now increased your prograf a bit to compensate and keep your levels stable. Don't be surprised if you end up needing a bit more prograf.

I was on fluconazole at one point (along with the prograf) and even though they cut my prograf dose in half, my level shot up to something like 30 (they wanted me in the 6 - 8 range).

I know that things/adjustments can be kind of scary, but keep in mind that during the first year your drugs and their doses are going to change regularly. I didn't have real stability until the start of year two. Don't get me wrong, things were great, just always a few changes and tweaks - you get used to it.

    Best of luck to you.
