Where did you hear about Transplant Friends?

Are You Male or Female?

Share - which illness led up to you needing a transplant?

I got Hep C from a blood transfusion during my C-Section 40 years ago. I was diagnosed in 2000 and already had developed cirrhosis. I was given peg interferon and ribaviron for 6 months and was a non responder. I was in a clinical trial for another 7-8 years and that failed also. So......I've had two esophogeal bleeds and nearly bled out both times, I was put on the Liver tx list after the first bleed. That was over 5 years ago. I developed a tumor on my liver w@hich was successfully treated with chemoembalization, and now have a 2 new tumor bled out both times, I was put on the Liver tx list after the first bleed. That was nearly 5 years ago. I developed a tumor on my liver which was successfully treated with chemoembalization, and now have a 2 new tumors growing. I am now on the Top Ten list for a Liver, and hoping to get through the tx and on to healing and feeling better.

Which Organ(s) did you receive? If you are on the waiting list, please share.

I am taking Prograf, and an assortment of other meds, which undergo weekly changes on the dosage while I get leveled out, but I also use essential oils for many issues, and, I love Vietnamese food!

Share whatever information you want us to know about you

I have been a busy "go-getter" all my life, so to have no energy and not be able to do what I normally used to do is frustrating. I am trying to make a learning process out of all this.... It's tough at times, but I guess it beats the alternatives!

  • Terry, thanks so much for touching base! I am doing Fantastic! I actually did the Hep C treatment almost a year before my transplant, so no Hep C for my new Liver, a drop the 3 tumors I had very isolated to my liver, so when they took the liver, they got all the Cancer too! I'm only on 3mg. Prograf twice a day and some Amlodipine cause the Prograf gives you high blood pressure. But I feel better than I have found 15 years! I am so incredibly lucky! How about you? What have you been doing???
  • Hi Pati

How is going after one year of transplant, hope you have already get rid of C RNA, I have had same scenario for 5 yeas now complete recovery, only on single pill and Vitamin D supplements.

  • Hello Rise! Was there more to the messge?
  • Hi Patti

  • I recently in November got on the list and just last week got moved to the top, not certain of my MELD score. Reason being I got moved is because I have liver cancer and barely made it under the size limit. How long have you been waiting or have you gotten a transplant now ?
  • Thanks everyone!  I am still having trouble finding my way around the site, but am exploring a little more. Pretty tough when you hunt and peck for typing and I'm totally computer illiterate. Thanks for bearing with me!

  •  Happy Birthday Patti !

  • Good to have you aboard, Pati! As I said, I would like to see you check out our chat. I will be busy this weekend, but there are many friendly folks who are on there on a regular basis. Andy, who is my partner in crime (just kidding) is a good guy from across the big pond (England). There are other nice folks there. Some will be able to answer any questions that you might have for them. This is a real good place to be.

  • Happy birthday Pati! Have a great day! You should join us for chat on Saturdays and Sundays starting at 2 p.m. CDT. Hope to see you there!
