  • I had pre-transplant only so not much help to you. My understanding is that the efficacy of vaccines for immunosuppressed patients is an open area of research though. Vaccines tend not to "take" as well. Also, vaccinations that should be good for a lifetime can "wear off" - hep A/B. There are so new protocols on re-immunizing transplant patients for some things - e.g hep A/B - to maintain their effectiveness. In short, you probably want to take extra precautions vaccine or not given this uncertainty.
    • Thank you for your response. I've been doing some research and see what you mean.
  • Hi Bettylou,

I have not!  I do not see the need for it unless you visit areas where an active infection are present.  Is this a protocol of your Tx center?  Has anyone discussed this with you?

    • I am going to Africa for safari in August and it is required to enter and exit Tanzania. I am consulting an immunologist this week. Just wondering if anyone else has taken it and if there were any problems.
      Thanks!
